The Importance of Upholding Values

The English Football Association (FA) has encouraged Premier League captains to wear the Rainbow armband as a gesture of inclusivity for the LGBTQ+ community. However, this policy prohibits religious messages or inscriptions on the armbands. This decision has sparked controversy, as it disregards the faith and convictions of players who do not align with this initiative and who view such practices as contrary to their beliefs.

The moral fabric of society appears to be under strain. When a society pushes God to the margins, it inevitably invites confusion and moral darkness. There is a misconception that faith in God limits freedom, but true freedom lies in aligning with principles that transcend self-interest and temporary desires.

Humans are never entirely free in the absolute sense; they are always influenced by either divine guidance or personal/selfish inclinations. With God’s guidance, one gains the strength to resist destructive tendencies and pursue a life rooted in purpose and integrity—this is the essence of true freedom.

Crystal Palace captain and England defender Marc Guéhi made headlines when he chose to inscribe “Jesus Loves You” on his Rainbow armband. This act, though controversial, was a bold assertion of his faith amidst the ongoing debate. While it may have defied the FA’s expectations, it served as a reminder of the power of truth to challenge societal norms.

The world often seeks to impose its values on individuals, yet the enduring strength of truth can counter such pressures. A society rooted in the divine perspective offers hope and liberation from the pitfalls of moral ambiguity.

The Magical Set and 2024

Another year began with hope, filled with a flurry of wishes and expectations. The Magical Set was no exception, joining in the celebrations that typically accompany the arrival of a New Year.

The year was anything but uneventful for the association, unfolding with moments marked by various shades of experience—bright, bland, and black. Life inevitably presents difficulties and challenges. Just as Christians are spiritually connected to Jesus, the struggles of one member can ripple through the community, affecting others.

A particularly somber moment came for Fali (née Towolawi), who lost her husband during the year. Many reached out to console her during this difficult time. Losing a spouse is heart-wrenching; words often fail to provide comfort. Yet, the presence and support of others can help ease the pain, even if it takes time to come to terms with such a profound loss and its consequences.

The year also brought a wave of reflection for those learning about the earlier passing of Aremu Saheed. In response, Olaoluwa stepped forward, reaching out to support the orphans he left behind. Agali Muibi also lent his hand, sharing his own story of struggles—experiences that often remain untold but are deeply felt.

Life, with its ups and downs, tests our resilience. Our responses shape the paths we take. Some may seek new challenges in pursuit of growth. Perhaps that was the case for Tosin Idowu, who sought to relinquish the reins of leadership. While Solesi and others wished for him to stay on, Tosin chose a different path. An election was held in July, where he received overwhelming support. Yet, to the surprise of many, he orchestrated his own exit, paving the way for Babajide Ogunbajo to emerge as President. Despite stepping aside, Tosin continued to work behind the scenes, offering support to the new administration and demonstrating his commitment to the association’s betterment.

December 2024 brought a mix of joy, excitement, and subtle melancholy. The association hosted a get-together on the 15th, where attendees expressed their gratitude. Sinchieze, affectionately known as the Amuludin of Chicago, contributed generously, distributing gifts to everyone present and leaving echoes of joy across the platform.

The month also brought personal celebrations, as Pius welcomed the arrival of his twin boys, John and James. The occasion filled the hearts of many with happiness. Otunba, ever enthusiastic, ensured he was present at the festivities, even if it meant using the popular Okada to get there.

As we step into 2025, let us hope for a year more beautiful than 2024. I was tempted to say, “May your year be rough,” as challenges are inevitable. Yet, if our eyes remain fixed on Him who created heaven and earth, these trials will define us, and we shall emerge refined, shining like gold (Job 23:10).

Happy New Year, everyone!
